Where: Trondheim, Norway
Background: According to the project plan, every year, LABDA Academy will arrange training sessions on different topics in different locations. In this regard, we had our first training at LABDA Academy in Amsterdam. All the LABDA researchers and Ph.D. fellows across Europe were invited to participate in this training to gain a deeper understanding of the topics, train relevant skills, and strengthen our research network.
Training: The 2nd LABDA Academy, held in Trondheim, Norway, was a 5-day event featuring diverse topics such as intellectual property, research creativity, and data analysis. Attendees participated in workshops, speed meetings, and sessions on innovative technologies and dataset preparation. The event fostered networking, collaboration, and learning, culminating in insightful discussions and a celebration of teamwork and innovation.
First day: We started with great topic of IntellectualProperty (IP) and IntellectualPropertyRights (IPR) with some truly insightful presentations by Haakon Thue Lie and Ander Aune. We’re exploring everything from Pasteur’s legacy in patents and trade secrets, to the intricacies of intellectual assets and the nuances of IP terminology. This knowledge is crucial for leveraging innovation and maintaining a competitive edge in the industry.

The strategic importance of IP in business models.
Exploring the Resource-Based View and the importance of knowledge and intellectual assets in fostering innovation.
Third day highlights:
Another wonderful workshop on Compositional Data Analysis and Creativity in Research II by Professor Sebastien chastin.
Speed meeting sessions to facilitate effective discussions with other researchers in the field, policymakers, public health researchers, and methodologists.
Fourth day highlights:
SENSInnovationAps by Morten Kjærgaard: An in-depth look into Sens Motion technology and its groundbreaking applications in tracking and analyzing Human Movements Morten’s session highlighted how these innovations are transforming healthcare and ClinicalTrial research.
Preparing Datasets for Analysis by Josef Heidler and Marian Marchiori: A comprehensive hands-on workshop on dataset preparation. Josef and Marian shared their expertise on ensuring linking multimodal data for advanced 24-hour Physical Behaviour analysis, crucial for Physical Activity research success.
Wrapped Up the LABDA Academy in Trondheim !
Starting with Séverine Sabia’s clear workshop on academic writing and Jasper Schipperijn thought-provoking session on combining data, we ended with insightful sessions on functional data and cluster analysis by Ian Danilevicz and Sam Vidil.
During this LABDA Academy II, all fellows learned and enjoyed immensely
Many workshops and discussions challenged us, inspired us, and made us question many things in research
For relaxation we took a scenic walk, played an exciting game of Kubb, and enjoyed a fantastic dinner together. It was the perfect way to unwind and bond as a team.
